What is a Professional Organizer?
According to the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO), "a Professional Organizer enhances the lives of clients by designing systems and processes using organizing principles and through transferring organizing skills.

A professional organizer also educates the public on organizing solutions and the resulting benefits. Professional organizers help individuals and businesses take control of their surroundings, their time, their paper, and their systems for life." Back to top

Is it expensive to hire a professional organizer?
The cost of hiring a A Step Above Organizing Services varies depending on many factors. Each client has their own priorities, challenges and outcome they want to overcome or achieve. Some of the situations that may increase the cost of hiring a Professional Organizer are clients that take a longer time to make decisions, clients with “Hidden clutter”. One way of decreasing the cost is for clients to do ‘homework’ after we’ve left for the day.

Be wary of trying to calculate the cost without first talking with a Professional Organizer. This often times will turn into the mountain versus the mole hill phenomenon. What you think will take you 15-20 hours to de-clutter and organize may only take A Step Above Organizing Services 8-10 hours. Back to top

No, we offer a complimentary, no obligation, 30 minute telephone consultation. During this time, we ask questions so we can get to know you and your situation. You can also take this time to ask us the questions you feel will help you decide if we are the right team for you. Back to top

What happens after the consultation?
We can schedule an on-site assessment or we can schedule the first appointment. The on-site assessment includes a complete tour of your home with various question/answer moments. Can you organize my home in 24 hours like the shows on TV?
Unfortunately not. I’ll be doing you, myself, and our industry an injustice if we were to allow you to think that. These shows have lots of editing and lots of down time. Did you know to complete one of these shows, takes anywhere from 80 to 120 hours? Back to top

Do I have to buy a lot of new storage systems?
No! We emphasize process over products. There’s always the possibility that you may need to purchase an organizing product to complete a project. However, we will always attempt to create a process using your existing items first. It is also not recommended that you make any pre-purchases in an attempt to be ‘ready’ for us. Back to top

Do I have to clean my home before you come over?
Absolutely NOT! We can learn a lot about how you function and what may be the best system for you when we see your normal everyday living space. Back to top

Will you provide housecleaning services during the project?
There are times when we will help you clean up a cleared area or sweep out a closet before we organize the space. However, we will not clean your home for you. If needed, we can recommend a house cleaning service. Back to top

What do I do with the items I want to get rid of?
Well, there are a couple of ways to do this. Things you want to toss will go in the trash. For functional things you want to donate, choose your favorite charity and give it to them or have them pick it up. If you don’t have one, we can give you a list of places that accept donations.

For items you want to sell, you can have a yard sale or use any of the online services (LINK to links PAGE) available. We strongly suggest that you do not hold onto the items to be sold for too long. For one, it will take up space in your home and secondly, seeing the item daily may rekindle your emotional attachment. Back to top

Do you provide on-going maintenance?
Absolutely! Above all, it is our job to teach you to think like an organizer. Our goal is to get you to recognize the importance of being organized and clutter free. This may take a few weeks or it may take a few months. Change takes time. You are, after all, trying to undo habits created over years.

A Step Above Organizing Services offer weekly, monthly or bi-monthly maintenance packages to help you stay focus on being organized. These follow up sessions will also allow us the chance to see if we need to make changes to an existing system. Back to top
